Our website relaunch: faster, more secure, no cookie banner

3 min read by LimeByte

We rebuilt limebyte.de from the ground up – no tracking, no cookies, strict security rules and a real look at our projects. A glimpse behind the scenes.

An agency that recommends secure, fast and data-minimal websites to its clients should lead by example. That was the brief for our relaunch: limebyte.de shouldn’t just look new, it should show how we work. So we didn’t give the site a facelift – we rebuilt it from the ground up.

We now do what we recommend

The new website loads nothing from third-party servers. Fonts, images and scripts are hosted by us, there is no tracking and there are no cookies – which means there’s no cookie banner for you to click away either.

That took a few creative solutions. The map of our office in Cologne’s Mediapark, for example, isn’t an embedded Google map – it’s drawn from OpenStreetMap data. And we fetch our Google reviews when the site is built: you see genuine feedback from our clients without your browser ever contacting Google.

Security you can verify

Under the hood, the site runs on strict security rules: a Content Security Policy with no exceptions for injected code, enforced encrypted connections and protection against being embedded in other sites. We don’t just claim this – on Security of this website we explain every measure and show you how to check it yourself.

On the homepage, your own browser even does the maths live: how many requests the page made and how many of them went to third-party servers. Small spoiler: zero.

Fast on every device

We went for a static website with no database and no login that could be attacked. That makes it more robust – and fast: the homepage needs only a few kilobytes of JavaScript and weighs around 250 KiB on a smartphone, fully scrolled and including all project images.

For an agency website with references, illustrations and animations, that’s very little. And it pays off, especially on the go with a weak connection.

Accessible to everyone

Accessibility was part of the plan from day one, not an item at the bottom of the to-do list. The site can be used entirely with a keyboard, is prepared for screen readers and was checked against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2, level AA). It’s available in German and English, and if you prefer things dark in the evening, you can switch to the dark theme in the menu.

More insight into our work

What’s also new is how much of our work you can see. Our projects show 15 client projects with current shots of the live websites – from a flipchart tool to law firms to a wellness practice. All in all, 137 projects and more than 25 years of project experience stand behind our team.

You’ll also find everything about our free security check: we test websites and IT infrastructure for exploitable vulnerabilities – confidentially, without obligation and with clear results.

A new motto, the same attitude

With the relaunch we’re also giving ourselves a new motto: Think digital. Build securely. Automate intelligently. It sums up what drives us – creative web development, holistic IT security and automation that genuinely takes work off companies’ plates. Or, as it says right at the top of the homepage: innovation meets IT security.

We look forward to your feedback

A website is never quite finished – and that’s a good thing. If you spot something we could do better, or if you’d like to tackle your own project with us: get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you.
